The Highlights: Cardi B Becomes the "Villain Judge"

The biggest surprise of the night wasn't a queen—it was guest judge Cardi B. While guest judges are usually polite, Cardi came out swinging with honest, blunt critiques that earned her the nickname "Villain Judge" from fans on social media.

She was particularly tough on Kenya Pleaser, telling her, "The skirt is terrible" and reminding the queens that if the outfit isn't great, the "glam" (makeup) has to be perfect to save it. Her honest energy brought a refreshingly high-stakes feel to the season opener.

The Maxi Challenge: Reclaim, Renew, Rejoice

For the first challenge, the queens had to dig through the "Drag Race Vaults"—unconventional materials left over from past seasons—to create high-fashion signature looks.

  • Nini Coco stole the show by taking a risk. She reimagined the famous "bag dress" (a disaster from a previous season) into a couture masterpiece made entirely of paper.

  • Vita VonTesse Starr also impressed the judges with a polished, high-fashion silhouette that landed her in the Top 2.

  • Jane didn't receive high marks for her innovative hair and styling, which Cardi B personally praised.

The First Lip Sync for the Win

In a classic premiere twist, nobody was eliminated. Instead, the top two queens, Nini Coco and Vita VonTesse Starr, battled it out for the first $5,000 cash prize of the season. They performed a high-energy lip sync to Cardi B’s "Enough (Miami)."

Nini Coco was declared the winner, securing the first victory of Season 18 and proving she is a front-runner to watch.

Who is Competing This Season?

This year features 14 queens, including the first-ever mother/daughter duo in the show’s history:
